The best flooring for a commercial office space depends on many factors, including budget, amount of foot traffic, acoustical needs and ease of maintenance. The most important factor may be the look and feel that the flooring material should create. For offices where visual appearance is an important factor, hardwood flooring or luxury vinyl planks may be the best solution.
Multiple criteria are likely to be important when choosing flooring for a commercial office. The style of the floor should complement the interior decor and the vibe that the office wants to exude. Durability is key, as the floor must withstand lots of traffic and the movement of chairs. Sound-dampening qualities may be important in larger spaces or in offices where a quieter environment is preferred. At Carlisle we offer a luxury plank that has a top ultra-thick “wear layer” that protects a fade-resistant decorative layer that features the beautiful, authentic appearance of wood. The decorative layer is adhered to an ultra-stable core that’s twice as thick as the industry standard. The bottom layer contains a built-in cork-based underlay that makes these luxury vinyl planks quiet and comfortable while offering antimicrobial protection.
Luxury vinyl planks are beautiful, easy to install, highly water-resistant and more affordable than solid wood or engineered floors. Luxury vinyl is also highly durable and easy to maintain and repair.
Wide plank luxury vinyl flooring re-creates the look of a wide plank floor, which features floorboards that are much wider and longer than the very narrow boards used in standard commercial flooring. The extra width and length create a floor with very few seams, adding a sense of elegance and spaciousness to the room.
For offices where a hardwood surface is preferred, engineered hardwood flooring is an excellent option. An engineered floorboard is made with a top layer of hardwood that’s glued to multiple layers of backing material such as plywood or high-density fiberboard. This multilayered construction creates a floorboard with a very stable core – in other words, it’s much less likely to warp, expand or contract when exposed to moisture and humidity. In office settings, durable engineered wood flooring offers a more affordable alternative to solid hardwood.
Engineered hardwood floors are likely to last longer than luxury vinyl and are more eco-friendly. Luxury vinyl planks are more affordable and more water resistant. While it will resemble a hardwood floor, luxury vinyl will feel quite different to the touch and will feel softer underfoot. Essentially, the choice between these two flooring choices for commercial offices boils down to preferences in design.
